About this deal

I’m impressed by the comprehensive selection of ports including dual 10G Ethernet WAN/LAN ports, a single 2. Tom's Hardware is part of Future US Inc, an international media group and leading digital publisher. Actually i tried updating them via the AiMesh page on the UI but it didn’t work (the fw version remained the same), so maybe i should try to manually upload the firmware? New 6 GHz frequency band – Wider channels and higher capacity delivers higher performance, lower latency, and less interference.

In any case, looking forward to further developments to fully utilise my 10Gig broadband for Wifi 6e. ASUS Instant Guard uses VPN technology to create a secure data tunnel to your GT-AXE16000, adding rock-solid security to any public WiFi connections you use. The first time you get to the web interface, you'll run into a wizard that walks you through a few steps. Unfortunately, adding in the videos with the QoS gave us a high 43% dropped frame rate, and the game did not play at all.

GHz quad-core 64-bit CPU and WiFi chipsets, giving it the performance to handle even the most demanding gaming networks.

The point is, taking the Quad-band notion aside, the GT-AXE16000 still gives you a lot to brag about. The GT-AXE16000 will work but it’ll make things more complicated than necessary (and the hardware is more expensive). Measured using WiFi 6 client connected at 200 Mbps to WiFi 6 router with RangeBoost Plus, compared to same WiFi 6 client connected at 200 Mbps to WiFi 5 router without RangeBoost Plus. The wireless features include Beamforming, OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access), 20/40/80/160 MHz bandwidth and a 1024-QAM high data rate.

If i was someone who recently bought the axe11000 i would be pretty annoyed as this new router announcement makes that one seem kinda obsolete. I wouldnt get hung up waiting for wifi 7 to come, unless you are transferring absolutely massive amounts of data internally I dont know that most people should even really care. The reason I think it is a firmware bug is that that there was a firmware upgrade posted last week and before that there wasn’t any change in my network, and devices that supported it could get the full network speed on the 5GHZ. But looking at the specs of the new Wifi 7 platforms launched by both Broadcom and Qualcomm, future routers are more likely to have at least two 10G ports. The alchemy that is home networking is hard enough to obtain Journeyman understanding, let alone maintain bleeding edge expertise with real world expensive testing across so many subcategories.

With ASUS AiMesh, you can use a single SSID for your entire home network, with seamless coverage and no more dead zones, providing you with superfast, reliable and secure WiFi connections throughout your home. I am using Merlin firmware on both the GT-AXE16000 and the RT-AC5300 and both are running the latest version available. You can set up most other features via the app – and there are many of them – but several are better served by going through the web browser. So there’s obviously a bottleneck at the AXE16000 preventing its 10G ports from outputting higher speeds. We’ve had google wifi mesh (1 router, 4 nodes) for a couple years now, and it’s being overwhelmed by our devices and kids’ gaming.

Just curious—now that ASUS has dropped the GT-AX11000 Pro, would you still place this AXE16000 at the top of the heap? Dong's note: I first published this piece on January 6, 2022, as a news piece when Asus first announced the GT-AXE16000 and updated it on June 16, 2022, as a first impression of the actual hardware. I am unable to test the 10G WAN to LAN performance as I do not have a 10G Internet connection or the right equipment to simulate it. Asus GT-AXE16000: Extra detailed photos Out of the box, Asus GT AXE16000 includes an oversized power adapter — the same as the GT-AXE11000 — and a CAT6A cable. However, I only have a 1gbps connection and my real focus is wifi stability, range and usb file sharing stability.
